New High Pressure Sensor Kit Now Available

Franklin Electric is proud to introduce a high-pressure sensor, adjustable from 75 to 150 psi (5.2 – 10.3 bar) available January 24, 2012.

This high-pressure sensor is designed for applications required to pump water for long runs or higher elevations/lifts and is designed to work with the following Franklin Electric drives:

- SubDrive75                    – Inline 1100
- SubDrive100                  – Inline CP
- SubDrive150                  – MonoDrive
- SubDrive300                  – MonoDriveXT
- SubDrive2W

Caution:  Before installing verify tank rating with manufacturer to ensure the tank is compatible with higher pressures. The pressure sensor will produce higher pressures that are not suitable for residential applications. Consult Franklin Electric’s SubDrive/MonoDrive Installation Manual (M1560) for further instructions, warnings, codes, necessary precautions and additional guidelines.

If you have any questions regarding Franklin Electric’s drives and controls, or any of our water pressure solution products, please contact your Franklin Electric Territory Manager, Field Service Engineer, or Technical Service Hotline.

Franklin Electric’s Pump Selector Now Multilingual

As the first quarter begins, we would like to take this opportunity to reintroduce the Irrigation Pump Selector. By entering in a few pieces of information like design points, fluid properties, and motor sizing, Pump Selector can quickly search across Franklin’s FPS high capacity centrifugal and submersible pump catalog and find the appropriate product for you. It not only provides pump recommendations, but it can also create PDF versions of pump reports, offer cost analysis, develop VFD application curves, and much more!

Both the desktop and online versions of the Irrigation Pump Selector have gone through significant updates to include the latest Franklin products. These updates include, but are not limited to:

  • 4 x 6-13 h
  • Self-priming pumps
  • 6- & 8-inch SR
  • 6-inch, 500 gpm STS

Language support has also been added to both versions. The desktop version now supports English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian, while the online version supports English, French, and Spanish.

New this year, the Pump Selector desktop version is available for download. Download the Irrigation Pump Selector by clicking on the Pump Selector download button located just below the online version of the Pump Selector or click here to go directly to the Pump Selector website. Continue reading

Honda Engine Shortage

In November 2011, heavy floods in Thailand caused a worldwide shortage of certain Honda engine models, supplied for portions of Franklin Electric’s product line. Franklin part numbers affected by Honda’s supply shortage are GX120UT1TX2 (4 hp), GX160UT1TX2 (5.5 hp), and the GX270UTPA2 (9 hp).

To help customers continue to receive product in a timely manner, effective immediately, Franklin will substitute the affected Honda item number with the corresponding Briggs & Stratton item number. (For example: if you place an order for a 90271008, you will receive a 90271108). At this time, the only engine available is the Briggs & Stratton.  If this is not acceptable, Franklin regrets that we will not be able to fill the order.

Please find a cross-reference chart between the two units below.

We will continue to monitor the situation in order to resume Honda engine offerings as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Should you have further questions concerning the substitution between these two product lines, please consult your local Franklin Electric Representative, Franklin Electric Customer Service at 1-800-269-0063, or Franklin Electric’s Technical Hotline at 1-800-348-2420.

Next Generation of 6-Inch Submersible Motors Launch

Franklin Electric is pleased to announce the next generation of robust 6-inch submersible motors following a successful beta trial in 2011. The 6-inch DR56 line of motors is being released into the latest edition of Franklin Electric’s submersible Irrigation and Industrial catalog.

Effective immediately, the 6-inch DR56 motor construction will replace the 6-inch Hi-Temp 50 °C 50 and 60 hp motors in the Irrigation and Industrial catalog. The 6-inch DR56 motor will be the only available option for applications requiring 122 °F (50 °C) rated motors.

The 6-inch DR56 motors are a result of research and development efforts to improve Franklin’s submersible motor capabilities in handling increasing ambient temperatures, higher pump thrust loads, and lower cooling flow demands in applications limited in available well casing space. The 6-inch DR56 combines a portion of Franklin’s Hi-Temp construction with new features, creating a package capable of providing up to 60 hp while operating in a 6-inch diameter well casing. The 6-inch DR56 motors are rated for operation in ambient fluid temperatures at or below 122 °F (50 °C). As with the beta trial units, the 6-inch DR56 motors will be provided as a single unit with nameplate information for both 50 hp and 60 hp pump load points.

Below is a table of the available models:

The 6-inch DR56 motor is considered to be Franklin Electric’s third available option for applications requiring more from a submersible motor. Due to the additional temperature capability characteristics of Franklin Electric’s 6-inch Hi-Temp 90 °C or 8-inch Hi-Temp 75 °C line of motors, considerations for one of these two constructions should be made prior to choosing the 6-inch DR56 for the application.
